UIC shines in DACUN-NACMRE

Soaring high amidst the tight competition in the research sphere, the University of the Immaculate Conception (UIC) team composed of 29 faculty researchers and 32 student researchers reaped multiple awards in the National Academic Conference on Multidisciplinary Research (NACMRE) on February 6-7, 2014.

Organized by the Davao Colleges and Universities Network (DACUN) and Philppine Association of Institutions for Research, Inc. (PAIR) with the theme “Research Mix: Research Management for HEIs, Writing, Authorship in Publication and Bibliometrics” held at the Brokenshire Hotel-Resort and Convention Center, Davao City, the event was participated by different Higher Educational Institutions all over the country.

UIC garnered The Excellence in National Research Engagement 2014 (Diamond Award) and National Research Institutional Leadership Award 2014 along with several individual awards achieved by both faculty members and students who presented their researches.

Prof. Mary Jane Barluado and Dr. Renan Limjuco emerged victorious by garnering the Best Paper award for the faculty category for their study “The Hardly –Weinberg Principle in the Transmission of Selected Phenotypic Traits and Thalassemia for Three Generations in Random-mating Population in Davao City.”

In the student category, Alfie Zamora from the Engineering program and Orlando Rubi of the Accountancy and Business Administration (ABA) program garnered the Best Paper for the student category under the supervision of their respective research advisers Dr. Renan Limjuco and Prof. Emma Sagarino.

On the other hand, UIC faculty researchers had their moments in the oral presentation. Prof. Rvin John Servillon (Health) and Prof. Eric John Emberda (ITE) were proclaimed champion oral presenters while Dr. Sylvia Pidor (Governance), Prof. Armando Parantar (Humanities), Prof. Queen Jane M. Bacon (Health) and Prof. Kenny James Merin (Health) all gained 1st runner-up awards in their respective categories; Prof. Barluado (Humanities), Prof. Ma.Nanette Casquejo (ITE) and Prof. Ferlien May Baula (Education) were also declared 2nd runners-up.

Student researchers were also recognized in the oral presentation, Orlando Rubi (Business) hailed as champion oral presenter; Christelle Pacabis (Math), Hancel Marquez (Math), Alfie Angelo Zamora (Math) and Ana Lina Gerasmio (Humanities) were recognized as 1st runners-up while Randolph Villegas (Math) and Ressa Mae Onsing (Math) were awarded 2nd runners-up.

The UIC delegation was headed by Dr. Renan Limjuco, the university Research Director.
